How To Get The Most Out Of Your Backyard Space
Remember Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz? After her long journey down the yellow brick road to Oz she learned that the best things were right in her own backyard, that "there's no place like home". Do you feel that way about your own backyard? If not, why not? Look around your backyard as it presently is. Is there a patio or a deck? Is there a place for either or both of these things? Perhaps there isn't enough room for deck, but is there room for a gazebo or a pergola? Either of these can be built to suit a particular size, and to suit the style of your home. Perhaps you already have a deck or patio, but rarely use them. Why not? Are they not comfortably furnished? If that's the problem, it's easily solved. There are hundreds of different types of patio furniture sets to choose from. Perhaps your deck has the sun beating down on it making it too hot to enjoy. This too can be easily remedied by a simply built patio cover or you could use an awning. Perhaps you like your deck and patio but don't use them because you don't like what you see when you sit down on them. Unfortunately our neighbors don't all keep their yards like we'd like them too. Some of us live next door to Sanford and Son. Another problem easily solved. Perhaps you can plant shrubs or trees in areas that will help shield the views. Perhaps you could create a lovely view of your own. You could plant a water garden or a flower garden. Water features are always very popular in backyards. A backyard pond or a backyard waterfall can be built fairly easily and designed to enhance your backyard. Perennial or annual flower gardens can fill your backyard with beauty and color all summer long. If you can't, or don't want to do full fledged gardening work then consider container gardening. You can choose whatever container you like and plant whatever plants or vegetables you want without any fuss or muss when you do container gardening. How much entertaining do you do? Think of your backyard as another room, or rooms. Outdoor kitchens are becoming increasingly popular. You can have a simple or elaborate an outdoor kitchen as you choose. Fire pits make decks and patios cozy on cool spring and summer evenings. Invite wildlife into your backyard. A bird bath and bird houses will attract birds. Birds and other small creatures will also be drawn to your backyard pond and waterfall. Think about adding solar lights to your landscaping to enhance your yard and for reasons of safety. You can find them in many different styles. For the ultimate in backyard enjoyment consider an outdoor sauna. An outdoor sauna can be used year round, regardless of the weather outside. It's another way to relax and enjoy everything your backyard has to offer. |
